Bulldozer suspect to head to trial

(Port Angeles) – A trial date will be set later this week for a man accused of a bulldozer rampage last spring east of Port Angeles.
Barry Swegle was declared competent to stand trial last week.
On Friday, Superior Court Judge George Wood is expected to set a date for trial in the case.
Swegle faces multiple charges, including burglary and malicious mischief, related to the incident last May in Gales Addition. Prosecutors say he hopped on a piece of logging equipment and leveled or damaged four homes, smashed a pickup truck and knocked down power lines in an apparent dispute with his neighbor.
Swegle was originally found incompetent to stand trial last fall and was sent to Western State Hospital for treatment. Earlier this month he rejected a plea deal to serve about five years in prison.
