Historic totem to be rededicated at Peninsula College

April 29th, 2014 - 5:10am

(PORT ANGELES)-- Peninsula College will re-dedicate an historic totem today that has been part of the campus since 1971.

The totem first stood outside the original Maier Hall when it was gifted to the campus by Jamestown S'Klallam tribal member and master carver, Brick Johnson.

College President Luke Robins says the totem and its creator provided a long history for the college and local area.

Over the years, time and weather took its toll on the totem. When the new Maier Hall began construction in 2009, the cedar totem was returned to the Johnson family for restoration. This afternoon, Peninsula College will rededicate the totem in a special ceremony held on the campus.

The public is invited to the ceremony that starts at 2:00 PM by Maier Hall.
