PUD power rates going up this summer

(Port Angeles) – Electricity rates are going up for Clallam PUD customers.
Starting in July, rates will go up three and a half percent. PUD officials say that amounts to about an extra $3.35 a month for the average residential customer.
The PUD's budget for this year was built with an anticipated increase coming in the middle of this year.
PUD general manager Doug Nass say the rate increase is consistent with the agency's strategic plan to maintain stable rates and be financially responsible.
Last fall, the Bonneville Power Administration increased wholesale rates it charges the PUD by 9.5%.
Nass says there are also cost pressures from operations and the requirements to increase the PUD's renewable energy portfolio under state law.
