Salute to fallen law enforcement set Thursday

May 14th, 2014 - 5:20am

PORT ANGELES) If you drive or walk past the Clallam County Courthouse on Thursday, you will probably see a large gathering of law enforcement personnel gathered in the parking area just outside the jail. Don't be alarmed, it's not a tactical response team.

The Sheriff's Department is hosting its 4th Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Day BBQ for all law enforcement personnel and volunteers. This is a local event that is part of National Police Week, that takes place in Washington D.C.

The local memorial in Clallam County has grown each year. The sheriff's department expects over 200 people from the various law enforcement agencies on the peninsula as well as volunteers. This year, a group of Middle School students from Bellevue will assist in the preparation and serving of food at the BBQ as their Community Service Project.

At 1:30 PM the public is invited to observe the official Bell Ringing Ceremony at Liberty Park with a 21 gun salute and Honor Guard, that will commemorate those law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty.
