Deadline looms for comments on ONP wilderness plans

(PORT ANGELES) This Saturday marks the deadline for any more public comment on the alternatives listed in the Olympic National Park's “Wilderness Stewardship Plan.”
On March 11th, the park released four alternatives for dealing with the wilderness areas. They range from doing nothing, to a full implementation of the federal Wilderness Act that could lead to elimination of man-made structures and limits on access.
With no other meetings scheduled, public input on the alternatives need to be submitted by mail or by using the park planning website.
After Saturday's deadline, park staff will work on a refined set of draft alternatives that will include a tentative environmental impact statement. This draft wilderness stewardship plan and impact statement should be ready for public viewing by the spring of 2015, according to Park Superintendent, Sarah Creachbaum.
