DOE presents information on Dungeness water rule related to marijuana grows

May 21st, 2014 - 5:11am

(SEQUIM) The Department of Ecology will be part of a forum in Sequim dealing with implementation of the new rules covering well water in the area.

Among other topics, the DOE will talk about how marijuana growing operations will fall under the water usage guidelines of the Dungeness Water Management Rule. The forum is typically held every two months, in which residents are kept up to date on the Dungeness in-stream flow rule, dealing with such local issues such as well drilling, water use measurement, building permits and mitigation certificates. The law went into effect in January of 2013.

Because Washington recently legalized the use and growth of marijuana, the D.O.E's Mike Gallagher says his agency will address the use of water for grow operations.

The forum takes place from 12:30 to 2:30 PM on Wednesday, May 21st, at the John Wayne Marina in Sequim, and is open to the public.
