(Sequim) – It could be another day before investigators can get a closer look into what may have caused that big fire in Sequim this week.
The fire destroyed the building the housed the Baja Cantina and Sequim Consignment Company.
Fire District Three spokesperson Patrick Young says mopping up and beginning a full investigation could take days.
“We have to get the building fully cooled down before we can get investiators all the way inside,” Young told KONP. “This could be a multi-day event and it may be as far as Thursday.”
The fire broke out about 1 pm on Monday. It was discovered by Fire District Three aid crews passing by on an unrelated aid call.
Crews from Fire District Two and Port Angeles Fire Department were called in to battle the blaze. Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles. It took nearly four hours to get the fire out.
Building owner Linda Diesen says the structure was insured, but she adds that she spent much of the last decade renovating the building.
