(Port Angeles) — Police are working to identify the victim of an apparent suicide this morning near the Port Angeles waterfront trail.
The Trail was closed for about 3 hours near the Red Lion Hotel for a police investigation.
P-A Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith says the man, possibly in his 20s, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
Smith says a report of a body in the rocks and logs at Hollywood Beach came in shortly after 11 this morning.
He says a shotgun was found near the body that was discovered by a group of middle school students visiting the Port Angeles area.
Smith says an identification of the victim will be released after next-of-kin is notified.
