Sequim fire investigation to continue
May 27th, 2014 - 5:35am
(Sequim) – Investigators plan to head back into a fire-gutted building in Sequim today.
Insurance investigators are expected on the scene, trying to determine the exact cause of the fire that destroyed the Baja Cantina and Sequim Consignment Company last week.
The preliminary report is that the fire ignited somewhere in the structure's attic.
Fire District 3 Public Information Officer Patrick Young says the building is considered a total loss as the roof had a complete collapse.
Young says last week, investigators determined it was too dangerous to enter the building because of unstable overhead equipment, such as air conditioners.
They'll use heavy equipment to move out the dangerous structural remains to let investigators in this week.
The fire broke out a week ago Monday afternoon.
Smoke from the blaze could be seen for miles. It took nearly four hours to get the fire out.
