(Port Angeles) – A Sequim man has been charged with second-degree murder in a shooting at a Port Angeles-area birthday party.
27-year-old Nathaniel Olson will be arraigned on the charges next week.
Olson is being held in the Clallam County jail on half a million dollars bail.
25-year-old Matthew Baker of Port Angeles was found shot and killed in a home on Monroe Road early last Thursday morning. There had been a birthday party happening at the house and investigators say it appears heavy drinking was involved.
Clallam County sheriff's deputies say when they arrived they found Olson and Baker lying on the floor. Baker had a single gun-shot wound to the chest. Baker and Olson were apparently alone in the living room of the house.
According to court documents, Olson told one of the men celebrating a birthday he had shot Baker. Investigators recovered a .45 caliber handgun at the scene, but the gun was not registered to anyone at the home.
