(Sequim) – The city of Sequim yesterday officially broke ground on a new civic center.
City officials, decked out in construction safety gear and wielding gold-colored shovels, took scoops full of dirt from the site, next door to the old city hall.
Crews have spent the past month tearing down the old city hall in the 100 block of West Cedar Street to make way for the new building that will house all the city offices and the police station.
But the building will cost about a million dollars more than first expected. City officials now expect the cost will come in at just over 16-million dollars. The city had estimated it would cost about $15 million dollars.
