Unemployment up locally in May

(Port Angeles) Unemployment rates in Clallam County rose again last month.

According to state figures, the county's jobless rate ticked up seven tenths of a percent to 8.2 percent in May.

It is about a full percentage lower than it was last year at this time.

The labor pool grew by about 300 people between April and May, while the number of unemployed grew by about 200 hundred people in the same period.

Jefferson County's unemployment rate also went up last month to 8 percent.

Statewide, the unemployment rate for May was at 6.1 percent after also ticking up slightly from April.
