Fireworks sales begin Saturday, fire officials issue warning

(Port Angeles) – With July 4th nearing, the tents selling fireworks have already sprung up in Port Angeles, and other areas of the County. The fireworks sales officially begin on June 28th, and local police, sheriff's and fire departments are putting out the word so that people can stay safe as well as legal during this year's celebration.
22 fireworks vendors are licensed to sell pyrotechnics in Clallam County, but the actual count is higher when you add in the various vendors found on reservations. In the state, 937 fireworks stand licenses were issued.
Fire Chief, Sam Phillips with Clallam County Fire District 2, says that each year around July 4th, they face fire and medical dozens of calls related to people discharging fireworks.
Fire officials also stress preparation when discharging this year's batch of fireworks. Have water or fire extinguishers nearby, and be sure your fireworks are legal where you plan to set them off. Many of the fireworks purchased on the reservations, are not legal to discharge off the reservation. A check with your local law enforcement agency will clear up any questions on legal fireworks.
