Governor visits PA, touts composites effort

(Port Angeles) – Governor Jay Inslee stopped in Port Angeles yesterday.
The governor attended a change of command ceremony at the local Coast Guard Base and visited the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe.
But a big part of his trip was learning about efforts to further develop the composites industry in the area.
He visited composites training efforts through Peninsula College and talked with leaders trying to help the region land a 70-million dollar funding opportunity from the federal government. If awarded here, Port Angeles could develop into an area for recycling of composites.
Inslee says that's a key, new development in the composites industry.
The regional composites corridor would be headquartered in Snohomish County, but have plants and activities across the region. The governor believes the state has a good chance of getting the grant.
The region is one of four that are still in the running for the federal grant. An announcement is expected this fall.
