Spokane prosecutors say no charges in death of former PA man

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Spokane County prosecutors do not plan to file criminal charges against two deputies in connection with the death of former Port Angeles resident Will Berger.
The 34-year-old man died of injuries during a confrontation outside a fitness club in 2013.
Two Spokane County sheriff's deputies shocked Berger with a Taser and wrestled him to the ground in a choke hold after he became agitated at a gym and ran into traffic.
The prosecutor's office said Thursday it will not seek criminal charges against deputies Shawn Audie and Steve Paynter.
The medical examiner's office said Berger died of oxygen deprivation to the brain.
The office ruled his death a homicide.
The man's father, Bill Berger of Port Angeles, told the Spokesman-Review it shouldn't take more than a year to determine whether a crime was committed.
