Sequim schools take up transgender policy
July 21st, 2014 - 5:15am
(Sequim) – The Sequim School board tonight takes up a new policy for transgender students.
State policy requires districts develop a policy.
Port Angeles schools last month introduced a similar policy. The district has since delayed the policy after dozens of parents and citizens packed a public hearing voicing opposition.
The Sequim board takes up the policy tonight at 5 pm.
The state school superintendent's office has told districts to develop specific policies dealing with potential discrimination against transgender students.
The policy is supposed to be in place by the start of this school year.
