Volunteers in Sequim collecting city initiative signatures

July 28th, 2014 - 3:38pm

(Sequim) -- A Sequim resident is hoping to make a change in the way her city conducts business and she's starting with the petition process.

Susan Shotthafer and nine volunteers have been busy collecting over 700 signatures for two initiatives.

They're hope is that the two propositions will bring better transparency to city government and change the requirement for union membership as a condition of employment.

The petition will be turned into the city today, and the best case scenario is that the City Council will simply adopt the proposals.

There are a few different possibilities as to what could happen during the petition process.

It takes 640 signatures to qualify for an initiative.

Shotthafer estimates that her initiative efforts totaled nearly 800 Sequim residents.
