City suspends spending on Port Angeles Downtown Association
July 30th, 2014 - 5:40am
(Port Angeles) – The city of Port Angeles is withholding further funding for the Port Angeles Downtown Association.
In a letter sent to the PADA president, city manager Dan McKeen says the PADA remains in breech of contract with the city.
The city pays the PADA to manage parking in downtown, and has raised accountability questions in a series of letters with the PADA for months.
McKeen says the PADA has not provided adequate, measurable performance and the city will suspend its funding for now.
The city could choose to permanently withhold money if the PADA doesn't meet minimum standards McKeen outlined in the letter.
Chiefly, McKeen says the PADA must do more to maintain parking lots downtown as he called them in a state of disrepair.
He also writes the organization must also provide detailed analysis on stepped-up business recruitment efforts for the downtown.
