Carlsborg company tabbed to move historic chalet

July 31st, 2014 - 6:32am

(PORT ANGELES)-- A Carlsborg company will be tasked with moving an historic chalet in Olympic National Park away from a threatening river.

ONP has received a finding of no significant impact that will allow it to move the “Enchanted Valley Chalet” from its precarious position, as the East Fork Quinault River continues to erode the ground under the base of the cabin.

ONP spokesperson Barb Maynes says Monroe House Movers of Carlsborg have been given the sole source contract to move the cabin, and they have a short timetable in which to complete the move.

Maynes says the cabin will be moved about 1500 feet from its current location so that it is a safe distance from any further erosion. Maynes says that even after the “rescue procedure” the future of the structure is still uncertain.
