PA Symphony to ask public for conductor choice

August 1st, 2014 - 6:17am

(PORT ANGELES) The Port Angeles Symphony has been on the hunt for a new conductor since the departure of Adam Stern last May.

This year, the symphony will use several guest conductors who are all vying to become the next permanent maestro, which is a paid position with the orchestra.

Symphony asssistant board secretary Marie Meyers says they have had a number of applicants. She says of the 24 applicants, the board plans to select five semi-finalists. As those semi-finalists lead the symphony during a designated concert, the public will actually be asked to give their opinion of the conductor in a written survey.

Meyers says prior to each concert, the guest conductor will have an interactive give-and-take with the audience. The next scheduled concert for the symphony is September 26th at the Sequim Boys and Girls Club, followed by a September 27th performance at the Vern Burton Community Center in Port Angeles.
