Lincoln Park in Port Angeles closed for tree removal

August 4th, 2014 - 5:26am

(Port Angeles) - - The largest park in Port Angeles is closed for the first half of this week.

Lincoln Park was shut down as of last night as crews remove eight trees in the park.

City officials say they'll keep the entrances barricaded probably until Wednesday.

The trees are being taken down because they've grown too tall and interfere with nearby Fairchild Airport's landing approach.

The FAA has put restrictions on the airport until the trees come down.

The city and port of Port Angeles are still working on a long-term solution for more trees in the park that are also inhibiting flight paths into the airport.

An environmental assessment on a bigger tree project is expected to go out to bid later this year.
