Fire District Three marks 100 years

August 8th, 2014 - 5:40am

(Sequim) – The Sequim Fire Department marks 100 years Saturday.

Now called Clallam County Fire District Three, the department will mark the centennial anniversary with a day-long event in Sequim.

There will be a parade of antique fire trucks coming from around the region through downtown Sequim starting at 10 tomorrow morning. Then a festival with music, food and games will take place at the James Center near Carrie Blake Park from 11:30-6 pm.

Steve Chinn volunteers with the department and says things have changes a lot for the department in 100 years. He says the first station was in Sequim and featured one, hand-pulled "engine" covering roughly the same geography as the current fire district.

Now the district has seven stations and a mix of volunteers and career firefighters and EMT, with far more apparatus.

The evening will cap with a “Burning Down The House” dance party starting at 6 pm at Seven Cedars Casino.
