Clallam fire ban upgraded
August 11th, 2014 - 5:39pm
(Port Angeles) – The Clallam County-wide burn ban has been upgraded, prohibiting recreational fires, except within Olympic National Park and other controlled campgrounds.
Official say the decision was due to the upgrade by the state Department of Natural Resources and in conjunction with the Clallam County Fire Chiefs Association.
Clallam County Fire Marshal Sheila Roark Miller says while a burn ban is in effect, any illegal burning will result with the property owner being liable for all fire suppressant costs, fines and fees, including prosecution.
Miller also says maintaining a 30-foot defensible space around structures will help aid firefighters, by creating a green zone of protection around your personal property.
