New PA superintendent readies for Common Core, bond issue

(Port Angeles) – The new superintendent for Port Angeles Schools has been on the job for just over a month.
But Dr. Marc Jackson says he is ready to step into an effort to build a new high school for the district.
Jackson started his new job in Port Angeles July 1st after serving as a superintendent in California. However, he has owned a summer home in the Joyce area for nearly two decades.
Jackson told the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce yesterday, the aging infrastructure at the schools will make it impossible to implement modern teaching methods. Those methods include heavy reliance on technology and collaborative approaches between educators, students, the community and businesses.
Meantime, the Port Angeles Citizens for Education has been meeting with community members about how to approach a large bond issue next year. Steve Methner chairs PACE. He says there will be a community meeting September 16th at 6:30 pm at the Port Angeles High School Library to talk more about the bond issue and building a new high school.
